【原文】

鄉人飲酒（1），杖者（2）出，斯出矣。鄉人儺（3），朝服而立於阼階（4）。

【英文】

When drinking at a village gathering, he left as soon as those carrying walking sticks had left. When the villagers were exorcising evil spirits, he stood in his court robes on the eastern steps.

【注釋】

（1）鄉人飲酒，古時行鄉飲酒之禮。言鄉黨蜡祭飲酒主於敬老。

（2）杖者，老人。

（3）儺，迎神驅逐疫鬼，周禮以方相氏掌之。

（4）阼階，東階；主人所立之地。

【翻譯】

鄉里舉行飲酒時，等老人離席了，然後才離席。鄉人舉行儺禮驅鬼逐疫，也要穿上禮服站在宗廟的東階上。

【主旨】孔子居鄉之事。
