楊三合的筆記

【原文】

子夏（1）曰：「賢賢易色（2）；事父母，能竭（3）其力；事君，能致其身（4）；與朋友交，言而有信。雖
曰未學，吾必謂之學矣。」

【英文】

Zi-xia said, “I would grant that a man is, indeed, schooled who shows deference to men of excellence by putting on the right countenance, who exerts himself to the utmost in the service of his parents and offers his person to the service of his lord, and who, in his dealings with his friends, is trustworthy in what he says, even though he be said to be unschoolecd.”

【注釋】

（1）子夏，姓卜名商，孔子的學生。

（2）賢賢易色，上賢字作動詞，尊重之意；下賢字作名詞，指賢人。賢人之賢，而易其好色之心。

（3）竭，竭盡。

（4）致其身，委致其身，謂獻身於職守。致猶委也。

【翻譯】

子夏說：「尊重賢能的人超過愛美麗的女人；侍奉父母能盡心竭力；侍奉君王能鞠躬盡瘁；与朋友交往說話守信用。這倦的人，雖然說沒有學習過什么，我也一定要說他是學習過的了。」

【主旨】為事之道，為人之道。
