【原文】

定公（1）問：「君使臣，臣事君，如之何？」孔子對曰：「君使臣以禮，臣事君以忠。」

【英文】

Duke Ding asked, “How should the ruler employ the services of his subjects? And how should a subject serve his ruler?”

Confucius answered, “The ruler should employ the services of his subjects in accordance with the rites. A subject should serve his ruler by doing his utmost.”

【注釋】

（1）定公，魯君名宋，定其諡，哀公之父。

【翻譯】

魯定公問孔子：「君上命令臣下，臣下事奉君上，應該如何才對呢？」孔子回答：「君主命令臣下要依禮，臣子事奉國君要盡忠。」

【主旨】非儀禮時之禮，或禮在日常時之真實，對人之禮。
