楊三合的筆記

【原文】

子謂子產（1），「有君子之道四焉：其行己也恭（2），其事上也敬（3），其養民也惠（4），其使民也義（5）。」

【英文】

The Master said of Zi-chan that he had the way of the gentleman on four counts: he was respectful in the manner he conducted himself; he was reverent in the service of his lord; in caring for the common people, he was generous and, in employing their services, he was just.

【注釋】

（1）子產，姓公孫名僑，鄭大夫。

（2）恭，謙遜。

（3）敬，謹恪。

（4）惠，給予恩惠。

（5）義，合宜，合理。

【翻譯】

孔子談論子產說：「他具備君子之道的地方有四個方面：自我修養嚴肅認真；服事君王恭敬謹慎；教養人民多用恩惠；役使百姓合乎道義。」

【主旨】人受人喜愛及尊敬的原因，君子，恭敬惠義。
