【原文】

子張曰：「執德不弘，通道不篤，焉能為有？焉能為亡（1）？」

【英文】

Zi-zhang said, “Wherein can a man be said either to have anything or not to have anything who fails to hold on to virtue with all his might or to believe in the Way with all his heart.”

【注釋】

（1）焉能為有焉能為亡，世無此人，則不足為輕，世有此人，亦不足為重。

【翻譯】

子張說：「守德卻不去弘大，信道不能篤實，這樣的人，可有可無，有了他，怎能算是有？沒有他，又怎能算是無？」

【主旨】言守德信道宜弘且篤，否則不足為輕重。
